Sharon Lee Myers was born on August 21, 1944 in Hazel,
Kentucky, was singing on the radio by the age of six and had her
own show before entering her teens. Discovered by a future
Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame member, Eddie Cochran, she was
introduced to Sharon Sheeley. Together they wrote
“Dum, Dum” a million seller for Brenda Lee in 1961.

Changing her name to Jackie DeShannon, she signed with
Liberty Records where she first entered the Hit Parade with
“Faded Love” and “Needles And Pins” in 1963. “When You Walk
In The Room” followed a year later, with her first top ten single,
“What The World Needs Now Is Love,” a million seller in 1965.
American fans of the Beatles discovered Jackie DeShannon when
she toured with them on their first U.S. tour in 1964.  “Put
A Little Love In Your Heart” landed in the top five in 1969, giving
her another gold record.

The Byrds, Marianne Faithful, Tracey Ullman, Annie Lennox,
Stevie Nicks and Pam Tillis are among the numerous recording stars
that benefited from her songwriting talent, with her “Bette Davis Eyes”
giving Kim Carnes a world-wide #1 hit in 1981 and earning Jackie
DeShannon a Grammy Award for Song of the Year.
