William Thomas “Bill” Medley was born on September 19, 1940
in Los Angeles and Robert Lee “Bobby” Hatfield was born a
month earlier on August 10 of that year in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin.
Moving with his family to California, Bobby would meet
Bill while attending college to form the Righteous Brothers
who would gain worldwide fame with their “blue eyed soul.”
In the summer of 1963, their first hit single, “Little Latin Lupe Lu”
landed on the Hit Parade, followed by “My Babe.” In 1965
“You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” gave them a giant #1 hit with
“Just Once In My Life” and “Unchained Melody” also earning
them a gold record that year. In 1966 “Ebb Tide” peaked in
the top five nationally with “You’re My Soul and Inspiration”
giving the duo another #1 hit. A tribute to several departed
singing stars, “Rock And Roll Heaven” topped the charts in
1974 as did Grammy winner, “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life”
in 1987 when Bill Medley teamed up with Jennifer Warnes.
Following their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
in 2003, Bobby Hatfield died at 63 on November 5th of a
heart
attack at Kalamazoo, Michigan.
