Glen Frey, born November 6, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, Bernie
Leadon, born July 19, 1947 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and Randy
Meisner, born 8 March 1946 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, were hired as
backup musicians for Linda Ronstadt. Frey recruited Don Henley,
born July 22, 1947 in Gilmer, Texas. They backed Ronstadt on the
road as well as on  her 1970 album “Silk Purse. After their stint
with Ronstadt, they formed their own band, signed to Asylum Records
and chose the name The Eagles.  
 
Released in 1972, their first album, The Eagles, contained three top
40 hits. “Take It Easy”, sung by Glen Frey and written by him and
Jackson Browne, was followed by their first top ten single,
“Witchy Woman” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling”. Frey and Henley co-wrote
the majority of the songs on the group’s second album, “Desperado”,
released the following year. “Tequila Sunrise” and “Desperado” became
favorites of FM Rock radio.
 
In 1974 the Eagles began to expand from their Country rock direction
with their “On The Border” album. It contained the group’s first
#1 song “Best Of My Love”, as well as “Already Gone”. Don Felder,
originally recruited to play slide guitar on the album, joined the group.
 
The Eagles’ 1975 album, “One Of These Nights”, yielded hits with
“Lyin’ Eyes”, a Grammy winner and the title track and was a #1
single. Bernie Leadon was replaced by Joe Walsh, who was born
November 20, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas.
 
In early 1976, “Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) “was released. It
went on to become the best-selling album in U.S. history, selling over
29 million copies in the United States alone.
 
In late 1976, the Eagles released “Hotel California”. It contained two
#1 singles, “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California”, as well as the
hit “Life In The Fast Lane”. It became the group’s best selling
studio album. Randy Meisner was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit who
was born October 30, 1947, in Oakland, California.
 
In 1977 the group release the album “The Long Run”, which had
taken them two years to make. It yielded the group's fifth and last
No. 1 single "Heartache Tonight". After that, the group broke up,
reputedly because of difference between Frey and Henley.
In 1980 “The Eagles Live “was released, fulfilling the contractual
obligation to their record label. Glen Frey, Don Henley and Joe
Walsh each went on to successful solo careers.
 
In 1993 the last lineup of the Eagles reunited at the request of
Travis Tritt, so that they could appear in his video for “Take It Easy”
from the tribute album “Common Threads: The Songs Of  The Eagles”
recorded by various Country artists. This lead to their “Hell Freezes Over”
reunion tour in 1994. The live album recorded on that tour debuted
at #1 and contained the top 40 hits “Get Over It” and “Love Will Keep
Us Alive”. In 2003 "The Very Best Of The Eagles" CD debuted at #3.
 
In 2007 the Eagles, consisting of Frey, Henley, Walsh and Schmit,
released a single “How Long”, which had been part of the group’s set
in the 70s. It was later included on their CD “Long Road Out Of Eden”
which contains new songs with the group’s trademark harmonies.
 
In November, 2007, a new album by the Eagles, “Long Road Out of Eden”
debuted at #1 within a week of its release.
