
Helen Reddy
Born into a well-known Australian show business family on
October
25, 1942, as a child, Helen Reddy was performing on stage
and later
on radio and television where upon winning a talent
contest she moved
to the United States in 1966 to
become a naturalized citizen.
It was a song from the rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar,
“I Don’t
Know How To Love Him” that landed Helen on the
Hit Parade in 1971.
A year later “I Am Woman” became an
international feminist anthem
topping the charts and
remaining there for 22 consecutive weeks.
In 1973
“Delta Dawn”
occupied the #1 spot, followed by “Leave Me
Alone (Ruby Red Dress).”
1974 saw “You and Me Against the World”
earn Helen another
gold record and “Angie Baby” also at #1. Followed
by still
another #1 hit, “Ain’t No Way To Treat A Lady.”
Among Helen Reddy’s other hits were “Peaceful,” “Keep on Singing,”
“Emotion,” “Somewhere in the Night” and “You’re My World.”
Having hosted her own series on American television, headlined
on
the strip in Las Vegas, performed in numerous stage
productions and
motion pictures and sold millions of records
world wide, Helen Reddy
now lives on Norfolk Island, Australia.
