Doris Mary Ann von Kappelhoff, known as Doris
Day was born April 3, 1924
in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Starting out as a dancer and songstress, her
wholesome image
contributed to her becoming
one of the top stars of the 1950’s and 1960’s.
Doris Day starred in 39 motion pictures
including “Romance On The High Seas”,
“By The
Light of the Silvery Moon”, “Tea For Two”, “Love

Doris Day started her career
as
a featured vocalist
with the big bands
of Bob Crosby and Les Brown
and
became
a regular on radio’s
“Your Hit
Parade.” Doris topped the chart in 1948 with
"Love Somebody" and "It's Magic". "My Darling, My Darling" was
top ten that same year with "Again" peaking at #2 in 1949.
"Bewitched" reached the top ten
in 1950 and the following year
"Shanghai" also did.
Another muti-million selling single, "A Guy is A Guy" was #1 in 1952 and
Doris teamed up with Frankie Laine for a top ten hit, "Sugerbush" that same
year. "Secret Love" topped the Hit Parade in 1954 and stayed on the
best seller chart for 22 weeks straight. It was followed with a top five hit,
"If I Give My Heart To You."
Even with the birth of rock n' roll in 1955, Doris Day hit with the ballad,
"I'll Never Stop Loving You", taken from her film "Love Me Or Leave Me".
Another film, "The Man Who Knew Too Much" spawned Doris'
"Whatever Will Be Will Be" (Que Sera, Sera) that peaked at
#2
in 1956. Her "Everybody Loves A Lover" was top ten in 1958.
In just 15 years Doris Day landed 55 times on the most popular
singles
chart and her Greatest Hits album and those featuring
the songs
of her many motion pictures were very successful.
