Petula Sally Olwen Clark was born on November 15, 1932 in
Epsom, England. As a child, she commenced singing in the church
choir and as a ten year old began a series of appearances on the 
BBC., entertaining the troops during World War II.

At seventeen years of age, Petula’s version of America’s
Teresa Brewer, “Music, Music, Music”, became a hit in Australia
In 1954, she also hit in the UK with a song made popular in America
by the Gaylords, “The Little Shoemaker”. In 1955, “Suddenly There’s
A Valley”, a hit for Gogi Grant in the states, was also a favorite
in England by Petula Clark.

But years would pass before an alert stateside recording executive,
Joe Smith, decided the time had come for Petula Clark to also
become a star in the United States. His label, Warner Brothers
Records would release “Downtown” in time for it to reach #1 at
Christmas in 1964. A Grammy winner, it was also a huge success
worldwide. A few months later Petula’s “I Know A Place” was
top five with “My Love” topping the carts at Christmas 1965.  
Top ten for Petula in 66’ was “I couldn’t live Without Your Love”
and in 1967 “This Is My Song” peaked at #3 in March, with
“Don’t Sleep in the Subway” top five by summer.
Among Petula Clark’s other hits were, “Round Every Corner”,
“ A Sign of the Times”, “Color My World” and “Kiss Me Goodbye.”

Through the 60’s and 70’s Petula performed on many
top rated television shows and appeared at the Copacabana
and the Empire Room at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York
and the Ambassador Grove in Los Angeles.

Having already established herself as a motion picture star in
England and Europe, in the late 1960’s Petula Clark was a Golden
Globe nominee for Best Actress while starring with Fred Astaire in
“Finian’s Rainbow. She gathered more American fans while starring
with Peter O’ Toole in “Goodbye, Mr. Chips.”

Still active in 2005, Petula Clark appeared with Andy Williams at
his Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri for several months 
and returned for another engagement in the fall of 2006.
