Tommy Edwards

Thomas Edwards was born on February 17, 1922, in
Richmond, Virginia, where as a pre-teen he was already
singing and entertaining. As a young man with a voice that
was often compared to that of Nat “King” Cole, he moved to
New York City and sang demo recordings of songs that
would be presented for others to record.

Signed by MGM Records, in 1951 Tommy Edwards hit the
Rhythm & Blues charts with “All Over Again” and would have
a pop success with “The Morning Side of the Mountain”
that reached top ten on the Hit Parade. In 1952 his
“You Win Again” peaked at #13 on the pop music surveys.

However, six years would pass before he tasted success
again with a giant chart topping multi million selling #1 hit,
“It’s All In The Game”. It was a song he had first recorded in
1951. It would be followed by “Please Love Me Forever”,
“Love Is All We Need”, “Please Mr. Sun” and a remake
of his earlier hit, “The Morning Side of the Mountain”.

Two more hits would come from, “My Melancholy Baby”
and “I Really Don’t Want To Know”.

Tommy Edwards died on October 22, 1969 of a brain
aneurysm in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia.
He was just 47 years of age.
